If you live in West Lake Hills or Rollingwood, the story of summer 2026 isn't a festival or a headline opening. It's a set of small, overlapping schedules that quietly rearrange your week. A repaving list that determines which route to school works this month. A church campus under scaffolding. A country club that reopened half of itself in June. An art exhibit at City Hall that closes in August. None of it is loud. All of it matters if you're the person driving these streets every day.
The thesis is simple. This summer around Westlake is best read as small print, not big print. Here is what the small print says.
The Street List Is The Real Summer Calendar
The single most consequential thing happening in 78746 this summer is a paving contract. On June 24, City Council awarded a contract for the 2026 Street Maintenance Project, authorizing improvements on 31 streets throughout the City of West Lake Hills, and West Lake Hills began the 2026 Street Maintenance Project on July 6, after City Council approved a nearly $1.7 million contract with Alpha Paving Industries. The work is crack sealing and mill and overlay operations. Crack Sealing is used to prevent water and debris from entering small pavement cracks, reducing further deterioration. Mill and Overlay removes the worn surface layer of asphalt and replaces it with new pavement to restore a smooth and safe driving surface.
That is dry until you read the list. The crews are moving through segments many residents use daily:
- Ledgeway Street from about 405 feet in to the end near 700 Ledgeway
- Yaupon Valley Road from Double Bend Road to the end
- Sundown Parkway from Bee Cave Road to the city limit
- Wood Trail, Westhaven Drive, and Wildcat Hollow, each from their Bee Cave or Redbud connections through to their ends
- Carrara from Cortona Drive to Westlake Drive
- Forest View Drive, Oak Ridge Drive, and Westbrook Drive, working through the network between Rocky River, Bee Cave Road, and the city limits
- Bulian Lane, Reveille Road, Las Lomas Drive, and the cul-de-sacs off Las Lomas at Hillcrest, Woodview, Crestwood, and Ridgemont
If your home is on any of those segments, the practical question is not whether the work is happening. It's how you handle the two mornings this month when a mill-and-overlay crew is at your driveway. Residents can expect minor delays, temporary traffic control, and short term construction activity as crews complete the work. One piece of context worth holding. The funding here is not new tax revenue. In 2021, West Lake Hills voters approved the Street Maintenance Sales Tax Program in order to provide dedicated funding for roadway improvements. In November 2025, voters reauthorized the street maintenance sales tax for eight more years. That reauthorization is why this list is 31 streets long instead of five.
Three Buildings Under Work
Three of the most visible institutions inside the Westlake orbit are simultaneously under construction or freshly out of it. That's unusual enough to notice.
The first is a church. St. Michael's Episcopal Church near West Lake Hills is constructing a new community building as well as renovating the Parish Hall and the Worship Hall, starting in June. For anyone whose weekly rhythm touches the St. Stephen's/St. Michael's corridor, expect changed access and staged parking through the back half of the year.
The second is a club. Just north of Westlake, at River Place, the first of a two-phase renovation at River Place Country Club is now complete, Arcis Golf announced in June. The Austin club's renovations include a new two-story fitness center, dining and social spaces, and a new retail setting. The two-story wellness hub includes dedicated strength and cardio areas, a Pilates studio, yoga studio and a recovery suite. The recovery suite features NormaTec compression boots, red light therapy and a zero-gravity massage chair. For families who use River Place as their primary weekend anchor, the wellness side of the club is now open. The dining and course work continues into phase two.
The third is a shop, and it sits at the retail node most Westlake residents pass through weekly. Sicara Shop and Design Studio offers interior design services, paint consultations, space planning, custom furniture design and small project solutions for residential and some commercial spaces. Home decor and custom furniture are also available to purchase at the storefront at the Hill Country Galleria. If you have been driving to South Congress or Burnet for design consultations, that trip is now a five-minute one.
There's a bigger point buried in these three. Institutional buildings inside 78746 don't turn over often. When a church, a club, and a design studio all announce meaningful physical changes inside a two-month window, the neighborhood's civic infrastructure is meaningfully different at the end of the summer than it was at the start. Most residents will experience this as a series of small surprises. Reading them together is more useful.
Where To Actually Spend A July Evening
The recent calendar in Westlake has been shaped less by big events than by short, walkable ones. Two are worth putting on the fridge.
The West Lake Hills Art Committee opened its summer exhibit on July 15. The open house will be held on July 15, 2026 from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. at West Lake Hills City Hall, 4010 Bee Cave Road, West Lake Hills, Texas 78746. The exhibit, "Celebrating America," will be on display at City Hall through August 21, 2026. The open house window has passed, but the exhibit itself is up for another month, which makes it a legitimate ten-minute detour on a Tuesday errand run.
Further west along Loop 360, Riverbend Centre for Arts is the premier cultural hub in Westlake, offering a wide array of events and activities for the entire community. Riverbend hosts concerts, art exhibits, film screenings, theatrical productions, and educational programs that highlight Austin's creative excellence. Each year, more than 30,000 people experience a performance or event at Riverbend. The programming is worth checking directly at riverbendcentre.org rather than relying on secondhand calendars.
If your bar for a good July evening is short drive, no ACL crowd, home by nine, both of those clear it.
The Anchors That Don't Change
Reading a summer around Westlake only through what's new misses the point of living here. The reason most residents don't spend July in downtown Austin is that the anchors closer to home are still doing the work.
Saturday mornings still run through the Barton Creek Farmers Market, held every weekend, where locals can purchase fresh, organic produce and artisan goods directly from regional farmers and craftsmakers. Weekday afternoons still run through the Westbank Library, a community hub that offers various programs and workshops for all ages, providing resources that enrich the Westlake community, from reading clubs to educational seminars. Cooler evenings still pull people onto the Barton Creek Greenbelt, one of Austin's most popular hiking spots, offering over 12 miles of trails through beautiful landscapes and rugged terrains, also a favorite spot for rock climbing, mountain biking, and swimming in the natural pools along the creek during the rainy season. Nature walks and slower Saturdays still route through Wild Basin Wilderness Preserve, a must-visit for nature lovers in Westlake, offering a network of trails perfect for hiking and bird-watching, with stunning vistas and diverse ecosystems preserved for educational and recreational purposes.
None of that is news. That's the point. The summer looks different this year because a set of smaller schedules got layered on top of a routine that is already dense enough on its own. If you have been feeling like your week is more interrupted than usual, that's not in your head. It's the paving list, the church renovation, the club reopening, and the exhibit rotation, all sharing the same six-week window.
A Note On What's Nearby
One item outside the strict 78746 line is still worth flagging, because it will change what a Westlake weekend can include. Austin Surf Lodge is a lakefront micro-resort and wellness club that opened in Spicewood on Memorial Day. The property offers lakefront cabins and suites that can be rented individually or combined for large groups. Wellness and water activities include paddle boarding, kayaking, a sauna, and hot tub, while wakesurfing and pontoon charters are available to overnight guests and the general public. For Westlake families who currently drive to Lakeway for a day on the water, there's now a closer option with a slightly different flavor.
What This All Adds Up To
The reason to read the small print is that it's the only version of the summer that's actually accurate. The big-print version says Westlake is quiet in July and full again in September. The small-print version says a third of the city's local streets are being resurfaced, a church campus is mid-renovation, a country club just reopened its wellness wing, a design studio opened at the Galleria, an exhibit is up at City Hall through August, and a new lakefront property is drawing weekend traffic west. That is not a quiet summer. That is a summer where the changes are distributed instead of concentrated, which is a very Westlake way for a summer to unfold.
